RE: silverado diesel VS new hybrid

We have a Laredo on a 2007 3/4 ton 4x4 ext cab 6.0 gasser. No problems with power. We're a tad (100#) over gvw loaded with 2 overweight adults, a Newfoundland dog, lots of stuff in the cupboards, full tanks and ready to camp. We start at 3500 ft altitude and usually go up. 10 -12 mpg with our incessant wind and know we could improve that by slowing down. Had a 1993 6.5 diesel and it had lots of power, not that much better milage, more expensive parts and service not to mention the premium to buy. Gas works for us.

RE: Curious Logistics on Outfitting a TC Today.

Aren't we all blessed to have these concerns to worry about? We have the opportunity to camp in wonderful places all over this continent. We have made life choices that appreciate the scenic and recreational opportunities that abound. We may have to make choices about traveling closer to home, or slowing down, to afford the fuel, but we are so creative and adaptable it keeps us doing what we love. Magic43 got it right, have some fun.

RE: Ideas for stabilizing the dinette table?

We found a shelf with a drawer in it at Lowe's that we put under the table (on the cushion) to support the table along witht the single support pole. The table got turned sideways to give us more room in the camper. The drawer holds napkins and salt and pepper and pulls out to carry the items to the picnic table. Bonnie in Montana

RE: If camper doesnt have grey water tank were does it go??

Microtrash in the water attracts bugs, mice and thus snakes. Learning that, I had no trouble diverting my waste water to a bucket and outhouse

RE: North Star truck campers...

Just like others are saying- we love our 2005 Laredo. The few issues (hinge popped out, popping fuse) were taken care of immediately when we contacted the factory so never became a problem. The cassette toliet works easy and is clean. We chose it for the skylight and still love to lay in bed and look at the stars. Have had it out in Yellowstone in the winter comfortably. Another issue important to us is this camper did not cost $40,000 yet we still know we got good quality. It goes on a 3/4 ton truck without exceeding any limits. By just dividing out the cost of the camper by nights camped in it in the camper journal, we are down to $300 a night. It would take a lot of nights to get to that point with some on the market. If you want to enjoy travel, it's a good way to go. Bonnie and Mike in Montana

RE: Love/hate relationship with GM

You may have better luck finding the TCM at a Detroit/Allison distributor (like big trucks instead of automotive). They also have better prices on transmission oil filters - same filter. Mike in Montana

RE: Days to go and dazed

Be sure to add a notebook and keep it as a journal of nights spent in your camper. We write a short page with place, price, weather, dinner and divide out the camper price by the nights spent in it(We're down in the $120 a night range in 2 years!). Lots of fun to look back and remember! Bonnie in Montana

RE: elkhorn 8r

We had a used Elkhorn for a trip. The tie downs pulled out of the camper on our maiden voyage and we ended up returning it. The dealer initially laughed at my worry about it, but gave us our money back.

RE: Northstar arrow on srw sb 3/4

We also have a Laredo on a 2007 Chevy 2500 hd 4x4 long bed. We upgraded with Timbrens on the rear this winter to make it more comfortable, but we drove it 8000 miles last summer stock. What are you folks using to get in and out of the camper on such a tall truck? We are exploring stairs and ladders- any suggestions? Mike in Montana
